He was the lead vocalist of numerous rock bands, including Free, Bad Company, the Firm and the Law. His obituary lauded his many, many contributions to music, from his time in King Crimson to getting Foreigner on the map. In 2002 he was a member of the 21st Century Schizoid Band alongside former King Crimson members Michael and Peter Giles, Mel Collins and current Crimson singer Jakko Jakszyk, performing a repertoire of classic Crimson. Paul Bernard Rodgers (born 17 December 1949) is an English-Canadian singer, songwriter and musician. Foreigner founding member Ian McDonald passed away on February 9, 2022, and according to The New York Times, the cause of death was colon cancer. Jones, the only remaining original member of FOREIGNER, suffered from some health issues beginning in 2011, eventually resulting in heart surgery in 2012. He was a great friend and an incredible musician/songwriter. FOREIGNER replaced Gramm with Hansen in 2005. Hackett tweeted: "I’m really sad to hear the news of Ian McDonald’s passing. Bad Company were an English rock supergroup that was formed in London 2 in 1973 by singer Paul Rodgers, drummer Simon Kirke (both ex- Free ), guitarist Mick Ralphs (ex- Mott the Hoople) and bassist Boz Burrell (ex- King Crimson ). He helped co-found Anglo-American melodic rockers Foreigner along with guitarist Mick Jones in 1976, appearing on the bands first three albums Foreigner (1977), Double Vision (1978) and Head Games (1979). McDonald also had a career as a session musician, notably playing on T-Rex's 1971 hit Get It On (Bang A Gong) and also producing albums for Irish prog rockers Fruupp and Darryl Way's Wolf.
